{"id":4857,"date":"2022-05-09T16:43:38","date_gmt":"2022-05-09T14:43:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/prosailingtour.com\/?p=4857"},"modified":"2022-05-09T16:43:38","modified_gmt":"2022-05-09T14:43:38","slug":"countdown-to-season-2-of-the-pro-sailing-tour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/prosailingtour.com\/en\/2022\/05\/countdown-to-season-2-of-the-pro-sailing-tour\/","title":{"rendered":"Countdown to season 2 of the Pro Sailing Tour"},"content":{"rendered":"<section class=\"l-section wpb_row height_medium\"><div class=\"l-section-h i-cf\"><div class=\"g-cols vc_row via_grid cols_1 laptops-cols_inherit tablets-cols_inherit mobiles-cols_1 valign_top type_default stacking_default\"><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><p class=\"p1\"><b>Season 2 of the Pro Sailing Tour, one of ocean racing\u2019s most exciting new competitions, gets underway on Thursday in Bonifacio, Corsica, with two days of inshore racing on the agenda, followed by a round Corsica challenge that kicks-off on Saturday.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>The fleet of 7 &#8211; the 8<sup>th<\/sup> Armel Tripon, will return for Episode 2 &#8211; Ocean Fifty foiling trimarans will descend on one of the most beautiful locations the Mediterranean has to offer for a four-day spectacle that will give a glimpse of who might challenge the defending 2021 champions Leyton, led by Brit Sam Goodchild.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b><i>RACE FOCUS<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Season 2, the new dimension<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Spectators \u2013 afficionados or just the curious \u2013 will still be abuzz with the highly acclaimed and recently released Ocean Fifty documentary series, produced by Upswing Prod, co-produced\u00a0by\u00a0Mille et Une Productions and distributed by Sunset+Vine, that broadcast on CANAL+SPORT just five days ago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">And now the skippers are back after a winter of optimisation with boats that are both faster and more reliable, and they are ready to do battle. \u201cEveryone has raised their game,\u201d said Quentin Vlamynk, who was the 2019 Multi50 French Champion, and finished 2<sup>nd<\/sup> in the first season of the Pro Sailing Tour. \u201cIt will be particularly tough,\u201d predicts Gilles Lamir\u00e9 who won the Transat Jacques Vabre in 2019 with a Multi50. &#8220;The fleet is wide open,\u201d said Thibaut Vauchel-Camus, 3<sup>rd<\/sup> in the 2018 Route du Rhum on the Multi50 and 2<sup>nd<\/sup> in the 2019 TJV.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Who will challenge defender Sam Goodchild?<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The turquoise waters off Bonifacio will be the battleground for what promises to be an intense and committed effort by the fleet to oust defending champions Leyton, who won season 1 decisively in 2021 taking four out of five victories to claim the overall title.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">But Leyton skipper Goodchild has not been idle this winter, his crew has been boosted with the addition of Pierre Pennec, Olympic Tornado sailor, and Devan Le Bihan, World Match Racing Tour, America\u2019s Cup and French SailGP sailor. His boat has been modified with a central rudder and a new mast and on his latest outing he won the 1000 milles des Sables a month ago, single-handed. His closest rivals in 2021, Quentin Vlamynck, skipper of Arkema 4, who finished 2<sup>nd<\/sup> and Thibaut Vauchel-Camus, skipper of Solidaire En Peloton-ARSEP, who finished 3<sup>rd<\/sup>, have also strengthened their hand and will be in hot pursuit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Eric Peron, the newcomer<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">S\u00e9bastien Rogues, Primonial \u2013 with Solitaire du Figaro winner Pierre Quiroga among his crew \u2013 and Erwan Le Roux, Koesio, 1<sup>st<\/sup> and 2<sup>nd<\/sup> respectively in the Transat Jacques Vabre, are also ones to watch. While Gilles Lamir\u00e9, Groupe GCA-1001 Sourires, who recently finished 3<sup>rd<\/sup> at the Caribbean 600 off the back of setting a round-Martinique record earlier in the year, is also very motivated to make his mark.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Armel Tripon, skipper of Les P\u2019tits Doudous, will be sitting out the season&#8217;s opening regatta following a capsize off La Coru\u00f1a. He hopes to re-join the fleet in Brest for Episode 2.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Eric Peron, skippering Komilfo, is this season\u2019s newcomer to the Pro Sailing Tour. An experienced offshore specialist \u2013 Solitaire du Figaro, Transat AG2R, Tour de France a la Voile, and Volvo Ocean Race with Dongfeng \u2013 Peron finished 2<sup>nd<\/sup> on his first outing with the Ocean Fifty at the recent 1000 milles des Sables. \u201cI am the new kid on the block. My number one objective is to learn and progress and I&#8217;m really looking forward to it. We won&#8217;t be the statistical favourites, but we&#8217;ll be doing our best!\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>OFF SCRIPT<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cAmbitions on the rise\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sam Goodchild (Leyton):<\/strong> &#8220;The aim this season is to keep the same tempo as last year, not to give up and above all not to rest on last year&#8217;s victory. We must always try to progress to stay ahead!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thibaut Vauchel-Camus (Solidaire En Peloton-ARSEP)<\/strong>: &#8220;The motivation and quality of the crews as well as the very open game of this first season herald a season 2 with increased ambitions!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gilles Lamir\u00e9 (Groupe GCA-1001 Sourires)<\/strong>: &#8221; I know I still have a lot to learn but I am approaching this second season with great enthusiasm. The level of the competition is going to be very high!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>S\u00e9bastien Rogues (Primonial)<\/strong>: &#8220;With the reinforcement of Pierre Quiroga (trimmer, navigator) and Matthieu Salomon (n\u00b01), we want to aim higher in the rankings and gain in regularity and consistency. If that&#8217;s the case, the ranking will speak for itself.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Erwan Le Roux (Koesio)<\/strong>: &#8220;We are clearly making progress. We&#8217;re clearly setting our sights higher: our aim is to get on the podium and win races.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Quentin Vlamynck (Arkema 4)<\/strong>: &#8220;We&#8217;re back with the same boat, the same name but new colours. Even if our competitors have also raised their game, we&#8217;re looking forward to the start line.
